I am madly in love with our tax accountant. In a totally platonic way. Here is why.
We’ve done our taxes several ways in the past. H&R Block, Turbo Tax, and Miracle Accountant. The first is an Evil Corporation. Just evil. The second in a nightmare of hidden fees and mistakes and possible audits waiting to happen. The last is a true thing of beauty and speed, like being handed the keys to an incredibly powerful, incredibly smart foreign car after driving a Yugo for 3 years. Perfection.
Aaron and I have always lived in one state and worked in another. It’s the downside of living in a city that spans two states….
So, when you go to a place like the Evil H&R Block, where they charge you PER TAX FORM, we used to pay about 200 dollars just to FILE our taxes. Then, because they are not as awesome as they say they are, the Evil Tax Accountants at said corporation would always give us the sad news that we OWE money to both states and the federal government, even though we made next to nothing. The one year we got a big return, it was a mistake and we had to send it back. Thanks Government.
To add insult to tax injury, we’d already spent it taking friends out to dinner and buying furniture for our new apartment (this was the first year we were married.) We’ve grown wiser since then, and God is so goooood, people.
Basically with our return this year, we are going to be able to get out from under all our debt! This is a huge deal to us, as we incurred said debt when Aaron was between jobs. Which means it’s slightly more than an entire months worth of living expenses. Preferring to have no debt at all, this has been a thorn in our sides for almost a year. I am so grateful that JUST before we move into our new more expensive house, we will no longer have the credit card balance hanging over our heads!
Can we all get together and shout “Freedom and Amen?!” I think we can. This is a huge answer to prayer for us.
Many other fun things have happened today, like the making of new friends Josh and Alice (from jhspedals.com) and the possibility of Doing Art and Making Money at it. Both of those things, combined with the news of Big Debt Eradicating Tax Return, have made today amazing, and I feel really blessed.
Also, cleaned out the hall closet and found where Aaron hid the cookies. W00t!
